Instagram Accounts Banned for Uploading Videos of Itchy Smart Glasses

A genre of videos that is increasingly popular on social media is those that record actions that annoy others through smart glasses. It may be in the form of pranks or attempts to scratch to write. But if such videos are uploaded to Instagram, it can now lead to accounts being banned.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, said that the platform will no longer allow videos in the form of annoyances like this to be uploaded. So far, several accounts that uploaded prank videos recorded with smart glasses have already been banned.

Instagram earlier banned videos like this because Meta is the main manufacturer of smart glasses with built-in cameras. Since its launch, there have been questions about privacy violations because people are recorded without permission.

This issue is considered serious enough that the Ray-Ban Meta has been given the nickname “itchy glasses” in the United States. With Google and Samsung set to launch their smart glasses next fall, Instagram’s move may be in preparation to prevent the dumping of disturbing content on their platform.
