Samsung Employees to Protest Due to Unequal Bonuses

In May, Samsung Electronics' labor union successfully pressured the company to increase its bonuses by threatening an 18-day strike. Samsung Semiconductor employees received the highest bonus in history, around RM 1.3 million each, but employees of other Samsung businesses received a much lower bonus of only 6 million won (~RM 16,000).

We previously reported that the high bonuses only for Samsung Semiconductor employees created a feeling of envy. Now, according to a report by The Next Web, up to 3,000 employees of Samsung Device eXperience (DX) are planning to organize a rally at Samsung's headquarters on July 16 to voice their dissatisfaction with management.

Samsung's other businesses have not recorded large profits, so large bonuses can be given. Today, the company reported that it predicts operating profit will increase 1,900 times compared to last year due to demand for RAM and NAND.

Samsung Semiconductor's profits are directly related to the soaring price of RAM. This has a different impact than Samsung DX because sales of smart devices will be affected due to expensive prices and shrinking profit margins.

So it's no surprise that DX employees are complaining that they're not getting big bonuses because the semiconductor business is hurting their business revenue.
