The use of electric vehicles (EVs) in the logistics sector is growing as a strategic move to improve delivery efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
Responding to current developments, SPX Express today launched 10 new electric vans to support delivery operations in the Klang Valley. The launch ceremony held at the Bukit Raja Selatan (BRS) Sorting Centre, Shah Alam was officiated by Deputy Minister of Communications, YB Teo Nie Ching. This move signifies the company’s continued commitment to integrating green technology into its logistics network.
The vehicles are supplied by Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Sunway Group. They will be used for daily parcel deliveries in urban areas around the Klang Valley. This electric van model is capable of covering a distance of up to 200km on a full charge, and offers a payload capacity of 1,050kg and a cargo space of 4.8m³. These specifications make it suitable for daily logistics operations that require efficiency while also reflecting the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
According to a company representative, this investment complements a previous initiative that introduced an automated sorting system worth RM63.2 million at the same facility in 2025. The facility is now capable of processing over 2 million parcels per day, thus increasing capacity and ensuring smooth delivery operations.
At the same time, Teo Nie Ching stressed that such logistics innovations are important to support the growth of the country's digital economy. He explained that every online transaction depends on a physical network that includes collection, sorting, transportation and final delivery. The use of electric vehicles also demonstrates how technology can be practically utilized to strengthen Malaysia's logistics system.
He also stressed the need to build a trusted digital ecosystem as police reports recorded more than 5,900 cases of e-commerce fraud in the first four months of this year. In this regard, the government and industry are urged to work together to ensure that logistics networks operate transparently, thus increasing consumer confidence in the e-commerce sector.
