Steam Frame Finally Goes on Sale Starting at $1,059

Pre-orders for the Steam Frame VR headset open today, ten months after it was announced last November. The Steam Frame is marketed as a competitor to the Meta Quest, aiming to be the VR headset of choice for gamers.

The Steam Frame operates as a standalone device, requiring no connection to a PC or console. It runs on SteamOS 3 and features dual LCD screens with a resolution of 2160 x 2160 pixels, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, up to 1TB of storage, and a 21.6 Wh battery.

Externally, it houses four cameras for spatial tracking, while two internal cameras track eye movement alongside an IR emitter for low-light visibility. Motion sensors are also included to track the wearer's movements.

The battery pack is positioned at the back of the headset to counterbalance the weight at the front; the unit weighs 440g. It also comes equipped with four speakers and supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3.

The Steam Frame is designed to be used with two controllers that share many elements with the Steam Controller, though the grips feature capacitive sensors capable of detecting four fingers. They support haptic feedback and run on a single AA battery, offering 40 hours of usage. The Steam Frame is set to go on sale next year, though pricing has not yet been announced.

The Steam Frame is priced at $1,059 (~RM4,315) for the 256GB model and $1,299 (~RM5,293) for the 1TB model.
