Apple Logo Returns to MacBook Pro with Touchscreen, Now Featuring Illumination

In addition to the removal of the camera notch on the MacBook Pro’s ProLED XDR display, Apple has brought back an iconic feature that once distinguished MacBooks from ordinary laptops. The Apple logo on the lid of all ProLED XDR MacBook Pro models—which now include a touchscreen—once again lights up in white.

This illuminated Apple logo feature was discontinued 10 years ago following an update to the MacBook lineup. Apple did not explicitly announce the return of this illuminated feature on its official website; it was discovered through a video shared by John Ternus on X, as well as content produced by creators who were granted early access yesterday.

The ProLED XDR MacBook Pro is equipped with a Tandem OLED display, similar to that found in the iPad Pro. Apple has not disclosed the mechanism used to illuminate the logo on the lid. It activates when the screen is opened to a 90-degree angle and turns off automatically when the MacBook is closed.
