Budget 2027 – Entertainment Duty Exemption for Local Films and Theatrical Performances Starting 2027

In Budget 2027, the government is placing special emphasis on the entertainment sector by announcing an exemption on entertainment duty for tickets to local films and theatrical performances, effective from 2027.

This measure aims to strengthen the arts and culture ecosystem, alleviate cost burdens for audiences, and create greater opportunities for creators to continue producing work. At the same time, the government urges individual states to adopt a similar approach to support arts practitioners across Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the nation's animation ecosystem will be enhanced with the goal of creating 20 new intellectual properties and introducing Malaysian characters to the global market. This initiative not only benefits the entertainment industry but also holds the potential to elevate the nation's creative works, making them more relevant on the global stage.
