The Budget 2027, tabled today, highlights the government's efforts to boost workers' earnings. A key measure is the increase in the minimum wage from RM1,700 to RM2,000, effective June 2027. The government also announced exemptions for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with sales revenue below RM50 million to support the operational viability of the sector.
In the previous Budget 2024, the government set the minimum wage for semi-skilled roles and graduates at RM2,500, while the living wage within Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs) and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) was raised from RM3,100 to RM3,400. These measures represent a continuation of the government's policy to ensure workers earn better incomes that align with the current cost of living.
