Following two phases of testing, the Emoovit autonomous electric bus in Putrajaya will begin operations and open to the public starting tomorrow, October 7, 2026. This initiative combines modern technology with eco-friendly transport, marking a new chapter for Malaysia's public transportation system.
The bus runs entirely on electricity, producing no exhaust emissions and helping to reduce air pollution. "Autonomous" in this context means the bus operates independently using an automated system equipped with sensors, cameras, and smart navigation technology, without a human driver. However, a monitoring officer or remote control system is typically present to ensure travel safety.
Functionally, the bus operates like a standard city bus, stopping at designated points along the route. Route P113 includes key stops such as MRT Putrajaya Sentral, the Ministry of Finance, the Palace of Justice, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dataran Gemilang, and the PPJ Complex, before returning to MRT Putrajaya Sentral.
The fare is just RM1 one-way, utilizing a cashless payment system via Visa and Mastercard debit or credit cards. The bus operates from Monday to Friday only—excluding weekends and public holidays—with a fixed schedule covering morning (7:15 AM – 10:15 AM) and afternoon (2:45 PM – 5:45 PM) sessions.
This autonomous electric bus has been undergoing testing since 2024, marking a significant step for Malaysia toward high-tech public transportation. Putrajaya was selected as the pilot city, aligning with global smart city trends. At present, it remains unclear whether this service will be made permanent or will merely be a trial run for a specific period.
