GNOME is a desktop environment well-known to most users of Linux-based operating systems and is widely used across various distributions, including Ubuntu and Fedora. Most recently, the GNOME Asia 2026 conference has selected Terengganu, Malaysia, as its venue and is scheduled to take place later this month, running from October 31 to November 2, 2026.
The conference will be held in a hybrid format, covering a range of topics related to GNOME, including its future direction, new features, and more. It also serves to celebrate the open-source community—specifically the GNOME community—within the Asian region.
In conjunction with this event, the upcoming version of GNOME will bear the codename "Terengganu," thereby promoting the state on the global stage, particularly among Linux enthusiasts.
Those interested can register for GNOME Asia today to join discussions regarding the development and future of this open-source software.
