Greece Bans Social Media for Users Under 15 Starting in 2027

Greece has become the latest country to ban the use of social media platforms by minors. The Greek Parliament passed a law today prohibiting individuals under the age of 15 from using social media platforms, with the legislation set to take effect on January 1, 2027.

This move follows concerns regarding the impact of social media on the health and safety of young people in the country. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that social media companies have approximately two and a half months to develop a system for verifying user age.

The movement to ban the use of social media platforms among minors was initiated by Australia last year, followed by Malaysia, Türkiye, the UAE, Canada, Indonesia, and France. However, in France, the ban was overturned last August after it was found to be in violation of the country's constitution.
