JomCharge and WHB Forge Strategic Partnership – Aiming for the Development of 1,000 EV Charging Stations in Selangor Within 2 Years

Selangor is intensifying efforts to build an electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Worldwide Holdings Berhad (WHB) and JomCharge. This agreement serves as more than just an official document; it acts as a catalyst to accelerate the development of an EV charging station network throughout the state.

In this partnership, WHB serves as the state’s strategic manager, tasked with coordinating investors and industry partners. This role ensures that development proceeds in an organized manner and delivers a significant impact. In the context of this development, WHB acts as a facilitator—not merely an operator, but a coordinator that bridges the interests of the state government with the private sector.

Meanwhile, JomCharge contributes its technical expertise as a provider of EV charging technology. Its responsibilities encompass the installation, operation, and maintenance of charging stations to ensure the smooth execution of the project. This combination of strategic and technical expertise strengthens Selangor’s position as a hub for sustainable transportation, while simultaneously driving Malaysia’s transition toward an electric-powered automotive future.

This approach mirrors a public-private partnership model, which has become a benchmark for modern infrastructure development. With the private sector providing the technology and investment, and the state government coordinating policy, this project is expected to foster a comprehensive EV ecosystem.

Selangor has set a target to develop 4,000 electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) by 2030. As an initial step, JomCharge has committed to completing at least 1,000 EVCS within two years. Moving forward, WHB will ensure that coordination with investors and industry partners proceeds smoothly, so that development not only stays on schedule but also contributes significant value to the state’s EV ecosystem.

However, the installation locations, types of chargers, and charging rates to be offered have yet to be announced.
