Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur became the major city with the worst air quality in the world, according to a list published by IQAir. The average air pollution index in Kuala Lumpur reached 203 yesterday, placing it at the top of the list, followed by Mumbai (192), Singapore (179), Lahore (167), and Delhi (159).
Air quality in Kuala Lumpur has officially reached "very unhealthy" levels over the past few days due to smoke from forest fires in Indonesia. Due to this deteriorating air quality, all schools in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, and Johor were ordered to close today. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education issued a directive for school closures in areas where the pollution index reaches 180.
Although Kuala Lumpur is the major city with the worst air quality globally, air quality is even worse in several cities in Sumatra and Kalimantan, where levels have exceeded 500.
