Compact game controllers are not a new concept. Brands such as 8BitDo and GameSir are already well-known in the market for offering small-sized controllers—ideal for gamers who travel frequently and need a gaming accessory that is easy to carry around.
Microsoft now appears to be entering this space with its latest offering: the Microsoft Xbox Nano Controller. Measuring five inches in length and weighing just 99 grams, this controller is specifically designed for those who prefer a smaller device—whether due to having smaller hands, being a child, or simply wanting something portable that is easy to store and take on the go.
Despite its compact size, the Xbox Nano Controller features all 18 inputs found on a standard-sized Xbox controller. It also includes an additional, programmable button that can be configured for tasks such as taking screenshots, screen recording, and more.
Beyond its size and design, another key difference is that the Xbox Nano Controller comes with a built-in, rechargeable battery that can be charged via a USB Type-C cable. In terms of connectivity, the controller is compatible with the following systems:
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One: Xbox Wireless connection
Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs: Bluetooth connection
Android and iOS devices: Bluetooth connection
Smart TVs and tablets: Bluetooth connection
Microsoft has opened pre-orders for the controller in select markets at a price of $49.99, with sales expected to begin this coming November.
