SoftBank Reportedly Planning $50 Billion Tech Investment in Malaysia

According to a Bloomberg report, Masayoshi Son, the founder and CEO of SoftBank, is planning a $50 billion (~RM204 billion) technology investment in Malaysia. This was announced by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim following a conversation with Son last Tuesday.

Two locations—one in Kuching, Sarawak, and another in Peninsular Malaysia—have been identified for projects that will focus on artificial intelligence (AI), data centers, and emerging technologies.

Earlier last month, SoftBank Group, Grab, and PETROS (Petroleum Sarawak Berhad) signed a framework agreement to explore the development of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and a digital ecosystem in Sarawak.

This investment will help realize Malaysia’s ambition to become an AI-driven nation by 2030. It marks yet another major AI-related project in Malaysia over the past two years.
