5 Tips for Data Security with Backup

Losing important data is annoying, and it can happen for a variety of reasons. For this reason, backing up data is a very important thing to do, especially for important work or school -related data as well as valuable data, such as old photos.
In a statement received, Western Digital (WD) invited PC and mobile phone users to celebrate World Backup Day which falls on March 31 by backing up valuable data on all their electronic devices. Here are tips for securing data with a backup from WD.

On World Backup Day which falls today, Tuesday (30/3/2021), Western Digital invites PC and smartphone users to back up valuable data on all electronic devices. Here are tips from Western Digital for backing up files on PCs, tablets, and smartphones safely and easily.

Make a neat filing

Store important photos, videos, and documents to a secure storage device, such as a hard drive or flash disk. Then, archive all this data every 2 years, and if possible, transfer all the files to a different storage device, once every 3-5 years. This is important to minimize the risk of damage to electronic devices, so that file backups are always safe, even in the long run. This is why, as digital technology advances, large storage capacity devices are increasingly needed - especially if you have a lot of videos, movies, or games that require more space.

Use encrypted hardware and software

As the next security measure, data encryption - both hardware and software - is very important to do. The purpose is to get the data backed up in case it is handed over to an irresponsible party. Especially for sensitive data such as personal or company files.

Use Password

The use of a password or passwords is the next security measure to secure data. The purpose is to ensure that the data cannot be accessed by others. One that offers this unique password related feature is WD. In SanDisk Dual Drive, there is a feature that allows users to assign secret passwords to specific files. Therefore, files can still be shared without having to worry about the leakage of sensitive data to others.

Set up automatic data backup

The more often you back up, the better, because the data stored is the most recent data. This is now easy to do, as these features are already available, both in the cloud and on hard disk, such as WD My Passport and My Passport Ultra which have WD Backup software.

Use the 3-2-1 rule when backing up

There is a 3-2-1 rule that should be applied when securing data. That is, at least 3 copies of the data, then save 2 copies of the data in 2 different locations, and finally, save 1 copy of the data offline. For example, you can back up data to a laptop, cloud and smartphone, but still have an offline backup, such as a hard drive. What's the point? So that data can be accessed at any time, even when there is no internet connection.
