Twitter Users Can Earn Money From Followers, Here's How

Influencers and creators on Twitter will soon have the opportunity to earn money from their followers. Twitter is currently opening registrations for trials of its Super Follows and Ticketed Spaces features.
Super Follows is Twitter's newest feature that allows creators to earn by giving followers a monthly subscription fee.

The subscription fee can be USD 2.99, USD 4.99, or USD 9.99 and subscribing followers can get exclusive content. But this feature can only be accessed by users who are 18 years of age or older, have more than 10,000 followers, and have sent 25 tweets in the last 30 days.

Twitter will take a commission of 3% from the subscription fee paid by followers. But through the App Store and Google Play Store, purchases will be discounted with a 30% commission so creators will only take home two-thirds of what their followers pay.

Once their earnings from Super Follows reach USD 50,000, Twitter will earn a 20% commission. Combined with a 30% discount from the app store, creators can only take home half of their income.

"Our goal is to empower people who drive conversation on Twitter and help them earn money," said Twitter's Senior Product Manager, Esther Crawford, as quoted by TechCrunch, Wednesday (6/23/2021).

"We're updating the revenue reduction after spending more time thinking about how we can support voice on Twitter."

Ticketed Spaces is a service where users can sell tickets to sell their Space sessions with prices ranging from USD 1 to USD 999. Users can also limit the number of tickets sold, so creators can sell one ticket for USD 999.

Twitter will alert participants when an event in Ticketed Spaces has started via a notification. Users who can access Ticketed Spaces are those who are 18 years of age or older, have hosted three Spaces in the last 30 days, and have 1,000 followers.

Twitter is opening registration for Super Follows and Ticketed Spaces through the mobile app only and only for users in the United States. Currently, only iOS users can register for the Super Follows program, but registration for Ticketed Spaces is open for iOS and Android.

Twitter added a new Monetization button in the sidebar of the app that users can access to see if they can participate in this limited trial. Both of these features will only roll out to the public in the coming months.
