A girl in England was bullied by her schoolmates because she had the same name as Amazon's virtual assistant service, Alexa.
The girl's parents shared how upset their daughter, who is also named Alexa, was being bullied. In fact, every time she introduced herself, she changed her name to Heather.
"He started not wanting to introduce himself because it was being used as a joke," said the mother, who did not want to be named, as quoted by Fox News.
It was also told that not only her school friends also bullied her but also the girl's teacher who made jokes with the name Alexa.
It is known that the name 'Alexa' is used by Amazon for smart speaker devices such as Amazon Echo and Echo Dot. To use the speaker the user must first say the word 'Alexa' before asking a question or placing an order.
Because of the bullying experienced by the princess, they even reportedly decided to move house.
"We've cut her friends and moved her to a new school for a fresh start," Heather said.
It's not just Heather's family, other parents are also asking Amazon to change their virtual assistant's name. They are Massachusetts-based Lauren Johnson who started a campaign called 'Alexa is Human'.
They wrote a letter to Amazon in which it was revealed that their daughter, who is also named Alexa, was regularly bullied at school because of her name.
In a statement to the BBC Amazon said there was actually an alternative to changing the call of its smart virtual assistant.
"As an alternative to Alexa, we also offer several other words that customers can choose from, including Echo, Computer and Amazon." Amazon said
"We appreciate the response from our customers, and as we do, we will continue to look for ways to offer more options in this area." he continued.
