Snapdragon 895 Produced by Samsung and TSMC?

 


Qualcomm is said to be using the services of TSMC and Samsung to produce the Snapdragon 895.
Previously, Qualcomm used the services of TSMC to produce the Snapdragon 865 with the N7P process which is the second generation of 7nm manufacturing. Then they moved to Samsung to produce the Snapdragon 888.



The latest is the Snapdragon 888+ which is made using Samsung's 5nm node.



But for 2022, Qualcomm will produce the Snapdragon 895 range through Samsung and TSMC. That's the Snapdragon 895 produced with Samsung's 4nm node, but the Snapdragon 895+ is made with the same manufacturer but by TSMC.



The Snapdragon 895 and 895+ release order will reportedly be the same as the two Snapdragon 888 series released this year. That is, the initial version was released in December 2021 and the Plus variant appeared six months later, and hopefully the lack of chips has increased a little by then.



The reason for using two different factories for manufacturing these chips is because TSMC has been flooded with orders for 5nm chips from Apple, namely Apple A14 and M1. Meanwhile, for next year, they will produce the 4nm A15 chip for the iPhone and the 3nm chip for the iPad.



While Samsung is expected to use 4nm technology to produce the Exynos 2200, which will be the first chip with AMD RDNA2 GPU.



While Qualcomm chose Samsung's 4nm factory to produce the X65 and X62 5G modems. So the same manufacturing will also be used in the Snapdragon 895, which has an integrated X65 modem.



Previously reported, Apple is said to be the first company to use a 3nm chip made by TSMC, which is likely to be used in the next generation iPad.



Apple had previously committed to ordering chips with the N3 node from TSMC, although it was still in the 'production risk' stage.
