Android 13 Will It Be Called Tiramisu?

Google has indeed changed Android’s naming scheme, from dessert names to numbers. But internally, they still use the dessert code name.
Well, for Android 13, it is reported that Google has specified the name of the dessert as an internal code, which is Tiramisu.

In a message found by XDA Developers in the Android 13 code line, it says ‘Rename T to Tiramisu’. According to XDA, this is the first mention of the dessert name for Android 13, which will be released in 2022.

Prior to Android 10, Google used a naming convention that contained numbers and dessert names for each version of Android. For example Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich, 4.1 Jelly Bean, 4.4 KitKat, and so on.

However, they have stopped using the naming scheme since Android 10, which is done because it is difficult to find a dessert name with an easy -to -pronounce ‘Q’. Since then Android has only used numbers to indicate versions.

Google considers Android naming unusual or even difficult to pronounce in some countries, including in countries with a large number of Android users such as India and Brazil.

The use of dessert names in English, according to Android VP of product management Sameer Samat, will alienate Android’s image from consumers in certain countries. In fact, previous Android names were often difficult to pronounce by users who came from certain regions.

But internally Google actually still uses the dessert name code. Like Android 10, which is internally known as Quince Tart, Android 11 is called Red Velvet Cake, and Android 12 - which is still in beta - is called Snow Cone.

Naming for Android 13 itself actually has several options. Tiramisu is probably a good choice as it is quite popular. But there is also 'Twix', the name of a chocolate snack like 'KitKat'
