New WhatsApp Feature Will Automatically Delete Photos and Messages

WhatsApp is rolling out two features that seem to be useful for privacy-conscious users. Both of these features can remove messages and photos automatically. Here's a summary of the leak.
Messages Disappear in 24 Hours

WhatsApp first introduced the feature of automatic deletion or missing messages in November last year, but it took 7 days after they were sent. Now Whatsapp is preparing a new variation of the feature, which is to automatically delete messages in 24 hours or less.

With the 24-hour option, WhatsApp users have more options. WABetaInfo, which usually leaks the latest WhatsApp features, has leaked a lot of information about the potential of this new feature.

From the screenshots they shared, this 24-hour deadline will not replace the option to delete messages in seven days, but rather an additional option.

This 24-hour option is likely to work similarly to the current seven-day option, i.e. all posts in WhatsApp chats will be automatically deleted by a specified deadline.

Admins in WhatsApp groups will also be able to enable or disable the disappearing message feature in group chats.

The screenshot shows WhatsApp images on iOS but the feature will be available for Android, web and desktop in a future update. This feature is currently under development.

This is not the only auto-delete feature that WhatsApp is developing. The Facebook-owned application also developed a feature that can delete photos, videos, or GIFs sent automatically after being viewed by the recipient. The leak is on the next page.

Photos and Videos Seen Once Then Disappear

In addition to messages, WhatsApp released a new feature called View Once. This new feature can remove photos and videos as soon as they are viewed by the recipient.

The presence of the View Once feature was revealed by WABetaInfo opponents after finding it in the WhatsApp beta version 2.21.14.3 application on Android. This function not only applies to photos, but also videos and GIFs.

In addition, this feature can be used in individual or group conversations. So how to use it?

1. Choose a photo, video or GIF to send

2. In the Add Caption section, you will find an icon that displays the number 1 in a circle. Tap the icon

3. A pop-up message appears explaining that WhatsApp has activated the View Once feature

4. Just send a message

In the See Once feature, other people who receive the message will have a chance to see it. Even if the message is sent to someone who has not activated the View Once feature, the recipient can only see it once.

Users who send messages can also see the status of the message if it has been sent, viewed and opened. Although there is a limitation to view, the recipient can still take a screenshot of a photo or video, and WhatsApp will not notify the sender because there is no screenshot detection in the application yet.

When the View Once feature is used on a group, shared media can be viewed once by each member of the group. Senders can find out who opened the media by clicking Message Info.

According to WABetaInfo, because blocked contacts can still interact with users in the group, they can also see media sent in One View mode.

There is no word on when this feature will be widely rolled out. But Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has signaled that this new WhatsApp feature will soon be available to everyone.
