Instagram Test Limit Feature. Protect Users from Harassment

Instagram is reportedly testing a new feature called Limits. This function allows users to lock their accounts and restrict interactions that could allow potential harassment attacks to occur.
The presence of this Limits feature seems to be the result of a racist case during the Euro 2020 Final where England had to lose in a match on penalties with Italy at Wembley stadium some time ago.

Worse, each of the three Instagram accounts of black England national team players was flooded with netizen attacks in the form of harassment and racism.

"Racism and hate speech have no place on Instagram. Honestly, it's not only regrettable to see people treated like that, but it damages the way Instagram works." said Adam Mosseri of The Head of Instagram in a video.

The Limits feature is a way to prevent disruption on its platform, Mosseri says Instagram plans to reduce hate to almost 0.

But of course being able to be completely clean or not against harassment and racism in apps is a difficult thing. For that Instagram is giving users a new tool that allows them to take control again, namely Limits.

“We know that people are sometimes in temporary moments that are risky and actually sick and we need to give them the tools to protect themselves,” Mosseri said of the feature.

The Limits feature is being tested in select countries around the world. Meanwhile, Mosseri promised Instagram will share more about how it plans to fight racism on Instagram in the coming months.
