Microsoft Launches 'PC' Through the Cloud, Here's How

Microsoft has a new area of business, which is a 'PC' rental service in the cloud through Windows 365. Here's the explanation.
Windows 465 is Microsoft’s new business, where they offer Windows 10 and Windows 11 through the cloud. Users of this service can enjoy the full PC experience across a variety of devices, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, both tablets and mobile phones.

Microsoft uses the Azure infrastructure to provide this 'PC' to users of Windows 365 services.

Windows 365 can work through a variety of modern browsers or through Microsoft Remote Desktop software. As a result, users can use Windows 10 (and 11) from a variety of devices regardless of hardware requirements.

"Windows 365 provides an instant boot experience. You can go back to using your PC exactly as you left it, because the state of your Cloud PC remains the same, even if you change devices," said Wangui McKelvey, GM of Microsoft 365.

Windows 365 is only available for enterprises, and will launch on August 2 with a monthly subscription fee. Currently, only one type of tariff is revealed for Windows 365, which is USD 31 per month for two CPUs, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.

However, there will be more tariff options to choose from, depending on the specifications of the 'PC' rented. The USD 31 per month tariff is not the cheapest option, as Microsoft will also offer the option of one CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. While the top choices are eight CPUs, 32GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage.

In fact, what Microsoft has to offer is nothing new. Many other companies provide similar services, such as Citrix. Even Microsoft has a similar service, namely Azure Virtual Desktop.

However, Microsoft insists that Windows 365 will be different from other services, especially in terms of ease of use.

“Windows 365 will make a big difference for organizations that want to try virtualization for a variety of reasons, but can’t - because it might be too expensive, too complex, or they don’t have the internal expertise to do this,” McKelvey said.

The creation of a Cloud PC in Windows 365 is promised to take just a few minutes, and can be delivered directly to employees without the need for special hardware. This may be attractive for businesses that employ employees remotely, or temporary contract workers who need to access the company’s network.

Because ‘PCs’ are in the cloud, employees do not need a VPN or certain security standards to access the company’s network securely.
