Overtake Apple, the World's Second Largest HP Vendor Xiaomi

Xiaomi overtook Apple and became the second largest mobile phone vendor in the world in the second quarter of 2021. According to data from research company Canalys, this Chinese vendor experienced a growth spurt of up to 83% compared to Q2 2020.
With this surge, Xiaomi’s market share now covers 17% and puts it in second place globally. The top position is still held by Samsung with a market share of 19%.

Meanwhile, Apple dropped to third place with a 14%market share. The top five positions are complemented by two mobile phone vendors from China, Oppo and Vivo, which each have a 10%market share.

Huawei’s name does not appear in the top five list as this vendor has been hit by many problems since being blacklisted which makes it unable to enter certain markets (especially the United States) and unable to access products and technology from the US.

Huawei’s absence in the global market was immediately taken advantage of by its compatriots, and Xiaomi became a vendor that benefited a lot. Canalys says Xiaomi is growing the fastest in Latin America, Africa and Western Europe.

According to Canalys, the phone’s competitive price is the biggest factor in Xiaomi’s success, especially when compared to the premium prices offered by Samsung and Apple.

"However, most are still leaning towards the big market, and compared to Samsung and Apple, the average selling price is about 40% and 75% cheaper, respectively," Canalys Research Manager Ben Stanton said, as quoted by TechCrunch on Friday. (16/16) 7/2021).

"So a big priority for Xiaomi this year is to increase sales of its luxury devices, like the Mi 11 Ultra."

Stanton added that Xiaomi may face challenges from Oppo and Vivo as these three vendors have similar goals. Unlike Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo are also more willing to spend more money on marketing.
