The 2026 World Cup will officially begin with the first match between Mexico and South Africa at the Estadio Azteca Stadium, Mexico early tomorrow morning. The official broadcasters in Malaysia are Unifi TV and RTM with the announcement only being made about a month before kick-off.
Because this announcement was made quite late, many are wondering how Malaysians can enjoy the 2026 World Cup after 20 years of watching on Astro. This article is hoped to help you watch the World Cup via smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs at home.
Where to Watch the World Cup?

There are 6 options in Malaysia, namely UnifiTV, RTM free TV, RTM Klik application, MyTV digital TV and MyGOV application. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. This article will touch on the disadvantages and advantages of each platform when you use it.
As the official broadcaster, all 104 matches will be broadcast live on Unifi TV. RTM will broadcast most of the matches live and also on hold. In addition to streaming live or held matches, viewers can also stream matches they may have missed (due to work) and short highlights of each match.

Should I subscribe to Unifi TV or not?
The answer at this time is no because even when the official broadcaster was announced by Fahmi Fadzil last month, he said RTM would only broadcast a select few matches live. But in the latest FAQ published yesterday, it said all 104 matches would be offered live through the RTM channels we listed above.
The advantage of RTM Klik and MyTV is that you don't need to create an account to access the content offered unlike Unifi TV. After installing the application, you only need to press the channel you want to watch.
BUT this all depends on the streaming experience early tomorrow morning. RTM Klik and MyTV are not streaming platforms that have been tested with millions of simultaneous viewers like Unifi TV. Unifi TV has a higher experience in controlling traffic. MyGOV, after being announced, there was absolutely no information about how many matches could be watched.
Two years ago I subscribed to SpoTV for Euro 2024. Many matches could only be streamed in low quality and in some matches in the final rounds the stream was intermittent.
So I think if you want smooth, uninterrupted streaming and reliable quality please subscribe to the Unifi TV Season Pass plan which starts at only RM50. But again this depends on the streaming experience tomorrow morning on RTM Klik and MyTV.
Enjoy watching the 2026 World Cup regardless of which platform you choose.
