The teenager who went into space with Bezos says he never shopped on Amazon

Oliver Daemen, a teenager from the Netherlands, was one of the people who accompanied Jeff Bezos into space on July 20 yesterday. Apparently Daemen confessed to Bezos that he had never shopped on Amazon.
Of course Bezos is the founder and former CEO of Amazon. He founded and funded the space company Blue Origin by selling shares of Amazon worth billions of dollars.

“I told Jeff that I actually never bought anything from Amazon,” Daemen said.

"And he was like, 'oh, wow, I haven't heard anyone say that in a long time,'" he continued.

Daemen flew into space with Bezos, his brother Mark Bezos, and flight pilot Wally Funk on the New Origin Shepard Blue Origin rocket. At the age of 18, Daemen is listed as the youngest person to ever go into space.

The physics student was selected after another candidate who paid $ 28 million for the flight withdrew at the last minute. Daemen says he got a call to fly into space with Bezos while on vacation with his family in Italy.

"They called and said: 'Are you still interested?' And we said 'Yes! Yes! Yes!' "Daemen said.

“We didn’t even pay nearly $ 28 million, but they chose me because I’m the youngest and I’m also a pilot and I already know a lot about that,” he added.

Three days after flying into space, Daemen said he still doesn't believe he can follow the experience. He admitted that he had long dreamed of going to space, but did not expect his dream to come true quickly.

After this, Daemen will start his education at Utrecht University in September. He admits that he doesn’t know what he wants after graduation, but he will consider a career in space tourism.

When asked what it's like to fly into space with the richest people in the world, Daemen replied with a smile: "They're so fun and come down to earth, even if it sounds funny," he concluded.
