How to Use 5 New WhatsApp Features Launched This Year

WhatsApp was hit by controversy in early 2021 because of its latest privacy policy. But this does not stop WhatsApp’s innovation to bring new features to its users.
Throughout 2021 WhatsApp has launched five new features. These features are not only for the WhatsApp app on Android and iOS, but also for the WhatsApp Desktop.

Here are five new features WhatsApp launched this year and how to use them, as summarized by us.

1. Mute the video before sending

As the name suggests, this feature can turn off a video before sending it via chat. Before this feature existed, WhatsApp users could not produce sound in video and were forced to use third -party applications.

How to use this feature is simple. First open WhatsApp and open any chat. After that, tap the camera icon in the chat room to select a video.

The video to be sent will be displayed on your screen. To turn off the sound in the video, click the speaker icon in the upper left corner. After that edit the video if needed and send the video as usual.

2. Voice and video calls on WhatsApp Desktop

This function was launched in the midst of the epidemic to make it easier for WhatsApp users to communicate with family and friends. Making voice and desktop calls on WhatsApp also has the advantage of not having to get tired of holding your phone.

Before starting a voice and video call on the WhatsApp Desktop app, make sure you’ve downloaded the app first. The app supports devices running Windows 10 64-bit version 1903 or later, and macOS 10.13 or later.

Once the WhatsApp Desktop app is installed, open the app and click on one of the individual chats you want to contact. Voice and video calls on WhatsApp Desktop are not currently available for groups.

Click the phone -shaped voice call icon, or the camera -shaped video call icon to start the call. During a call, you can turn off the voice by clicking the microphone icon, and turn off the video by clicking the camera icon.

To end the call, click the red end call button. To accept an incoming call, click the Accept button, or click Reject to reject the call.

You can also switch from a voice call to a video call, but you must get the permission of the WhatsApp contact you are calling. They can choose OK to divert the call to video, or Cancel to reject it.

Very simple, just click the camera icon that shows the video call during the call. If the contact receives a redirect, the voice call switches to video.

3. Join missed group calls

This function makes it easy for WhatsApp users to join missed group voice or video calls. Therefore, they do not have to answer immediately when a group call begins.

Not only that, participants of this call can also exit and rejoin as long as the group call is still in progress. There is also call information on the screen that shows who has joined the call and who has been invited but not joined.

Of course, this feature is only accessible after you receive a group call. You will receive a notification when a user invites you to join a group call.

If you can't join, tap Ignore. To view the call information screen, tap Merge. From that screen, you can see who the participants of the group call and other invitations are.

Tap Join to join the call. You can open the call information screen to add call participants or send notifications to users who have been invited but have not yet joined.

To join a missed group call, open the WhatsApp app and tap the Calls tab. If the call is still in progress, tap to join. This will open the call information screen, then tap Join again to join the call.

4. Hide the chat forever

This function is actually the latest version of the Archive feature that has long been in WhatsApp. Prior to this feature, chats that had been archived would still return to the main inbox if new messages entered the chat.

With this new feature, chats that have been archived will remain in the Archived folder even if they receive a new message. Archived chats will also be permanently hidden, unless the user removes them from the folder manually.

To hide chats forever using the Archive feature, is very easy. First, open the WhatsApp app on Android or iOS then tap and hold the individual or group chat you want to archive.

Tap the Archive icon, which is a box with an arrow in the upper right of the app. Chats will be permanently stored in the Archived folder.

To access archived chats, open the Archived folder at the top of the application. If you want to remove a chat from the Archived folder and restore it to your main inbox, tap the chat you want to restore and then tap the Archive icon in the upper right corner.

If you want the archived chats to return to the main inbox after receiving a new message, open the settings menu in the WhatsApp app, select the Chat option and turn off the 'Keep chats archived' toggle.

5. Delete photos and videos automatically

WhatsApp has previously launched a missing messages feature that can delete messages automatically after seven days. This time they released a View Once feature that can automatically delete photos and videos after they have been viewed by the recipient.

To use the View Once feature, open the WhatsApp app on Android or iOS, then select the contact you want to send a photo or video to.

Tap the camera icon in the chat column and select the photo or video you want to send. Then tap the Take a Look icon in the shape of a circle with the number 1 in it in the 'Add Caption' column.

Send the selected photos or videos as usual. If the recipient of the photo or video has seen the content sent, the words 'Open' will appear in the chat.

WhatsApp reminds users to send photos or videos via the View Once feature to trusted users. Because the recipient can still take a screenshot before the content is lost and the sender will not get a notification if someone takes a screenshot or records a screen.

The recipient of the message can also take pictures or videos of media sent using other devices such as cameras before the media is lost.
