Sony Secretly Launches New PS5 Version, What's the Difference?

Sony has quietly started selling a new version of the PlayStation 5. But don't expect this new version of the PS5 to be a PS5 Slim or Pro model because the refreshment it brings is very minimal.

So what's different in this new version of the PS5? It turns out that this new PS5 version is made lighter than the version that was first launched late last year.

Based on a report from Australian gaming site Press Start, the weight of the new PS5 model is 300 grams lighter than the original version. The original PS5 weighs 3.9 kg, and the new version is slightly lighter at 3.6 kg.

It's unknown what Sony removed or changed to make the new PS5 lighter. The difference can also be seen from the model number used. The new PS5 has the model number CFI-1102A, while the original model number is CFI-1000.

In addition, other changes can also be seen from the screws used to attach the console to the stand. This new screw is made bigger so that it can be removed by hand and no longer requires a screwdriver, as quoted from Tom's Guide, Tuesday (24/8/2021).

The first country to get this new version of the PS5 is Australia, after it was first discovered in the PS5 manual for Japan last month. This variant has also gone on sale in the United States.

One thing's for sure, these changes won't make the PS5 any easier to get. Due to the unresolved global chip crisis, Sony is unable to meet the very high demand for the PS5.

Gamers also find it increasingly difficult to get a PS5 because they have to compete with hoarders who buy PS5 stock using bots to resell at higher prices on online shopping sites or social media.

Meanwhile, gamers who are waiting for the PS5 with substantial changes will have to wait until 2022. This version of the PS5 is predicted to be even more powerful thanks to a special chip from AMD.
