Steam Deck Compatible with Windows 11?

Valve promised to work hard to make Steam Deck eligible for the installation of Windows 11, Microsoft's latest OS successor to Windows 10.
The installation requirements mentioned by Valve include Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0, which is often not available on current desktop PCs or laptops.

Steam Deck itself actually uses the Arch -based SteamOS 3.0 operating system, but comes with a Proton compatibility layer to run Windows -based games.

However, Valve will not lock the operating system on Steam Deck, which allows users to install Windows 11 if they wish.

"Right now we're checking the TPM. We're too focused on Windows 10, so far we haven't been able to check it out so far. But the expectation is that we can find it," said Greg Comer, Steam Deck designer.

The problem is that the existence of this TPM is not only determined by Valve, but also by AMD. Because Steam Deck uses a Zen 2 CPU and an RDNA 2 GPU from AMD.

"Right now we're talking to AMD to make sure at the BIOS level we can accommodate this. So far no one has indicated that there will be a problem with Windows 11," he added.

Windows is important for Steam Deck because it has much better game compatibility on Steam than Linux -based OSes. Valve promises a Proton platform that can provide quality performance for games that are not compatible with Linux (SteamOS 3.0).

In addition, by using Windows, Steam Deck users will be able to play other games that do not support SteamOS, such as games from the Epic Games Store, Blizzard Battle.net, or Microsoft Xbox Game Pass.
