Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Jack Ma's Secret to Success: 5 Hours More Active

Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Jack Ma have something in common. Success? Yes, that's for sure. But there is another thing they have in common. They always spend five hours (or more) doing this activity and it helps them to be more successful. What are they doing?

This is an activity known as the '5 hour-rule' and was first inspired by Benjamin Franklin in the 18th century. Franklin focuses on increasing his knowledge through one hour of study that is scheduled every day, including for self-evaluation, contemplating life goals, to reading books. Inspired by Franklin, the five-hour rule was later introduced by Michael Simmons, Founder of Empact.

"The long-term effects of intellectual satisfaction are as harmful as the long-term effects of not exercising, eating well or getting enough sleep. Not studying for at least five hours per week is the 21st century version of 'smoking'," says Simmons.

Bill Gates is known as one of the most voracious readers. He reads about 50 books every year. One of his house buildings is also known to have a large library room with lined bookshelves.

"If you read enough, there are similarities between convenience stuff, because this thing is like anything else this one," Bill Gates told Quartz in 2016.

"If you have a broad framework, then you have a place to structure everything," he continued.

His best friend, Warren Buffett, a great investor, spends six hours a day reading. In comparison, the average adult in the US spends only 20 minutes a day reading.

"Read 500 pages like this every day. That's how knowledge works. It builds, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it," Buffett said as quoted by The CEO Magazine, Tuesday (14/14/2020). 9/2021).

Likewise, Jack Ma, the Alibaba boss, is also known to be very crazy about reading books. There are several books that he recommends to the public including 'Makers: The New Industrial Revolution', 'Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organizations', and 'Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies'.

Meanwhile, the genius Elon Musk, the boss of the space company SpaceX, also has a hobby of reading books. According to his brother, Musk grew up reading two books a day.

If you are, how many books do you read or how much time do you spend reading? Let's commit to reading more often. Promise me?
