Getting Rare, Order Chips Now It Takes 21 Weeks

Chip scarcity has existed for a long time, but now the condition is getting worse. The impact is not only on the mobile phone industry, but also on other industries such as automotive.

Some analysts estimate that losses from the scarcity of this chip will reach USD 110 billion in various sectors.

According to Susquehanna Financial Group, the shortage of chips is getting worse than last July, where the waiting time for chip orders was six days shorter than today.

Currently, if there are companies that order chips, the waiting time until they receive their orders has reached 21 weeks. According to Susquehanna Financial Group, this waiting time is the longest since they started researching the chip business in 2017.

There are still worse, namely the waiting time for analog chips and Broadcom chips, while the power management and optoelectronic chips the waiting time could be a little better.

The scarcity of this chip has also made a number of technology company executives summoned to a virtual meeting with the US Government.

Those who have confirmed that they will attend the virtual meeting include Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, and representatives from companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Samsung Electronics, GM, Ford, and others. Reportedly TSMC and Micron will also attend the meeting.

The meeting will be attended by US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and National Economic Council Director Brian Deese. The topic that will be discussed at the meeting is the impact of the Delta variant of the Corona virus on the supply of chips.

Last April, US President Joe Biden met with a number of executives from various technology companies. During the meeting, Biden confirmed that he had the blessing of injecting funds into the semiconductor industry.
