Huawei boss freed, Chinese citizens flock to the airport

Huawei's Chief Financial Officer, Meng Wanzhou, was finally acquitted by a Canadian court and was greeted with joy by residents in her homeland, China.

Meng Wanzhou left her home in Vancouver, where she was under house arrest for nearly three years. Wanzhou was arrested at Vancouver International Airport, Canada, in December 2018 at the request of the United States.

Meng seemed to be smiling with his team, where he must have heard the news of his release. Meng's arrest garnered widespread attention because she is a very important figure and the daughter of Huawei founder, Ren Zhengfei. In retaliation, China also arrested Canadians on charges of spying.

He was arrested by Canadian authorities at the request of the United States for allegedly covering up Huawei device transactions with Iran, a country subject to US trade sanctions.

Meng's release was the result of back-and-forth negotiations between America - Canada - China. From the results of these negotiations, China also released 2 Canadian citizens from detention on charges of espionage, namely businessman Michael Spavor and former diplomat Michael Korvig.

Meng gave a press statement to reporters who were already smitten.

Meng's arrest is arguably the beginning of a technology war between China and the US that has received widespread attention. The US has arrested the top brass of a company that China is proud of and then imposed sanctions that Huawei cannot buy US technology without special permission.

Meng hugged one of her team of lawyers. "My life was turned upside down. This was a really disturbing moment for me. But everything has a silver lining. I will never forget the prayers of all the people from around the world," said Meng.

Meng immediately boarded Air China from Canada to Shenzhen, China, as reported by AFP. Previously, Meng had spent the last three years under house arrest in Vancouver, Canada.

"This case is the start of a technology war between the US and China that has received widespread international attention," said Paul Haswell of the law firm Onsent Masons.

Meng's supporters unfurled posters of support for her outside the courthouse.

Hours after Meng Wanzhou flew back to China, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that 2 Canadians had been released and were on their way home with Canada's Ambassador to China Dominic Burton.

Residents were already swarming the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. It is evident from this how this case is very attention-grabbing.

Meng waved and smiled as soon as she arrived at Shenzhen airport. Finally he landed back in his homeland.

People of all ages greeted him and waved Chinese flags.

They were also very excited when they heard the announcement that Meng had arrived at the airport.

It was here that Meng was placed under house arrest while in Canada and was restricted in movement, and had to wear a tracking device on her feet at all times.

The trackers made him uneasy and he was always escorted by Canadian security forces.

Once threatened with extradition to the United States, now Meng is a free woman. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also welcomed his arrival.

Now he is free and is greeted with great fanfare.

Residents waved Chinese flags and unfurled various posters to welcome Meng Wanzhou's arrival.
