BNM Introduces Semak Kasih Portal – Simplify Insurance/Takaful Claim Review

Did you know that an estimated 50,000 insurance policies and takaful certificates are eligible for death benefits but have not yet been claimed? This figure was shared by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), indicating that there are heirs who may be less aware or do not know how to make a claim.

Recognizing this, BNM introduced the Semak Kasih portal to make it easier for heirs to claim outstanding insurance and takaful benefits. This initiative not only helps families get their rights faster, but also emphasizes the importance of insurance and takaful protection in facing medical costs, fires or accidents.

BNM also explained that the process of sending letters by companies or using agents is still ongoing. However, the Semak Kasih portal was created to improve the efficiency of claims, thus making it easier for heirs to make reviews and obtain more information from relevant providers.

According to the FAQ section, this portal is provided free of charge and users must register first before making any searches. It functions to confirm the existence of the certificate and identify the relevant takaful operator or life insurance company. In addition, products eligible for review include takaful certificates and insurance policies purchased by deceased loved ones. The portal will also provide information on the insurance company or takaful operator to contact.

In addition, BNM stressed that financial literacy is now an important life skill. People need to build a strong foundation through emergency savings and adequate protection. In fact, statistics show that 41% of people are more likely to spend while 61% do not have at least RM1,000 in savings. Therefore, this clearly proves that a strong financial foundation is an urgent need.
