Jeff Bezos Called to Fund Projects for Everlasting Life

Some humans are obsessed with slowing down aging, and can even live as long as possible. That is also the reason for the establishment of this new startup in Silicon Valley called Altos Labs. One of the investors is the world's richest man, Jeff Bezos.

Initially several scientists visited the home of the Russian billionaire, Yuri Milner, in Palo Alto. The discussion is how biotechnology can be used to make people younger than they really are.

Milner has always been enthusiastic about science, each year he gives prizes of USD 3 million to scientists who are considered worthy of the award. But it seems that now he wants to be seriously involved in anti-aging technology.

The meeting at his house was the forerunner to the formation of Altos Labs. According to sources, the startup is pursuing biological reprogramming technology, a way to rejuvenate cells in the laboratory that might revitalize an animal's entire body and ultimately be used to prolong human life.

The startup has recruited scientists from top universities at the lure of big salaries and has had the widest opportunity to research how cells age and reverse the process.

One of the leading scientists who joined was Juan Carls Izpisua Belmonte, a biologist from Spain. He is best known for research that combines monkey and human embryos, and has predicted that the lifespan of humans can be increased by 50 years from the average.

Then there are Nobel laureates Shinya Yamanaka and Steve Horvath, a professor at UCLA who developed a kind of biological clock to accurately predict aging. "While there are many challenges to overcome, there is enormous potential," Yamanaka said when confirmed.

Sources say Jeff Bezos, the world's richest person who has retired from Amazon, is an investor besides Milner himself. Bezos has previously invested in several health technology and biotechnology companies.

For example, Unity Biotechnology, a company that is looking for drugs to resist aging, and Grail, a start-up that develops blood tests to treat cancer. With his vast wealth, Jeff Bezos probably wished he could live longer.
