Lenovo Makes Luxury Chromebooks with OLED Screens

Chromebooks are usually entry-level devices that are sold at low prices and with sufficient specs. But Lenovo has another approach with the Chromebook Duet 5.

The Chromebook Duet 5, also known as the IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook, is a convertible, a tablet with a detachable keyboard that has a 13.3-inch OLED screen.

This device is the successor to the Chromebook Duet which has a similar design but has a 10.1-inch screen size.

This OLED panel has a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, and is promised to have 70% less blue light than LCD panels in general. The purpose of this OLED display is to provide a great entertainment experience.

Usually this OLED panel is used in high-priced devices, but the Duet 5 itself is marketed at a price of USD 429, relatively high for Chromebook devices but still lower than OLED laptops in general.

Besides OLED, another interesting thing about the Duet 5 is the use of the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 processor from Qualcomm which was just released last May. This chip itself is actually designed for entry-level laptops, and one of them is used in the Samsung Galaxy Book Go which costs USD 349.

Its performance on the Windows platform is reportedly relatively slow, but maybe if it is used on Chrome OS, which incidentally is lighter than Windows, maybe the performance will be better.

The Duet 5 is part of another line of laptops with OLED screens that Lenovo has just released in the IdeaPad series. Asus has just released a new line of laptops with OLED screens, both in the cheaper Zenbook and Vivobook lines.

There is one new laptop that is also interesting from Lenovo, namely the IdeaPad Slim 7 Carbon -- also known as the Yoga Slim 7 Carbon. This laptop is claimed to be the lightest 14-inch OLED laptop, weighing 2.37 pounds or 1.07 kg.

The OLED panel used in the laptop is made by Samsung with a QHD + resolution. The screen has a 16:10 ratio, which has more vertical space than the 16:9 ratio.

Regarding specs, this laptop has a maximum configuration of AMD Ryzen 7 5800U with Nvidia GeForce MX450, 16GB RAM, and 1TB storage. Its 61Whr battery is promised to last 14.5 hours.
