TikTok wants to limit usage by children, 40 minutes a day

Douyin, China's version of TikTok, will limit the duration of use of the app by children under 14 years old.

According to ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, children under 14 can only use the short video platform for 40 minutes a day, between 6am and 10pm to be exact.

They implemented this new regulation to follow the Chinese government's new rules that restrict the access of children and adolescents to video games. Not only that, ByteDance also requires children under 14 years to use their real names on the platform.

ByteDance invites parents to help their children authenticate their real names on Douyin, as well as enable kids mode in the app.

Recently, the Chinese government made various new rules to reduce the online time of the young generation in the country, which they consider to be dangerous.

For example, they limit their citizens under the age of 18 from playing online games, which can only be done on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, or other holidays, with a limited duration.

They also require social media platforms and game companies to require users to use real names to register. This includes entering your phone number and other identification when registering.

ByteDance also stated that it will provide special content for children and teenagers that will appear in 'youth mode'. The content contains various scientific experiments, art exhibitions in museums, beautiful views from various places, history lessons, and so on.
