62% of Young Gamers Say They Have Experienced Harassment in Online Games

 


The Anti Defamation League (ADL), the world's anti-hate organization, revealed a study, in which 62% of young gamers have experienced harassment while playing online games. This percentage represents more than 14 million young people.

In the age range of 13 to 17 years, they experience it more often in multiplayer shooter games and Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA). As many as 89% of players find it in the game made by Riot, namely Valorant.


While the lowest order is experienced in the Rocket League game, where the percentage is up to 62%. At least 17 games were used as a reference for ADL, finding information related to online harassment felt by young gamers.

Among Us - 76%

Overwatch - 75%

World of Warcraft - 75%

Madden NFL - 68%

Minecraft - 67%

Clash Royale - 66%

League of Legends - 63%

Rocket League - 62%

ADL also analyzes the moments when gamers get abused. Around 39% admitted to finding it while in the game via voice chat.




Then 37% claimed, received it from the comments feature in the game. While the other 21%, experienced when outside the match through voice and text chat.


Overall, young gamers reported that the games with the most hostile environments were Valorant, Call of Duty, DOTA 2, PUBG, Fortnite and League of Legends. So that most players are more careful or choose to stop playing each of these titles.


The organization publishes a study, regarding the ongoing harassment faced by online gaming in the United States, for the third year in a row. They also made several recommendations, including asking game companies to step up efforts to combat hatred and harassment among players.
