Announcement, Galaxy Note 8 No Longer Get Security Updates

Bad news for Galaxy Note 8 users. Samsung has discontinued official support for this phone, which means the Galaxy Note 8 will no longer receive software or security updates.

Samsung recently updated its list of phones that get monthly security updates, security updates every four months and security updates every six months. The name Galaxy Note 8 is no longer on that list.

This is quite reasonable considering the Galaxy Note 8 was first launched four years ago. Usually Android phones only get software updates for three years, but Galaxy Note 8 users are lucky enough to still get official support from Samsung in their fourth year.

The support that Samsung provides is much better than that provided by other vendors, including Google. Although Pixel phones can taste the latest Android faster, Google only provides software updates for its phones for three years.

The Galaxy Note 8 last received a security update in August 2021. One year earlier, Samsung removed the Galaxy Note 8 from its monthly security update list to every four months.

When it was first launched, the Galaxy Note 8 came with the Android 7.1.1 operating system. This phone received two operating system updates, with Android 9.0 as the last operating system update.

The Galaxy Note 8 is an important phone for Samsung. This phone managed to make the Galaxy Note line back up after the explosion incident experienced by several Galaxy Note 7 units.

In addition to the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung has also discontinued software support for the Galaxy Tab A (2017). This South Korean vendor also modified the list of phones that will receive software updates in the future.

Now the Galaxy M22 and Galaxy M52 will only receive updates every four months. While the Galaxy A90, Galaxy M10s, M30s and Galaxy Tab S6 will only receive updates every six months.
