Usage Experience
When held, the first thing you feel is its rather ordinary design, reminiscent of phones released around 2021. Its style gives an old image that is less fresh than competitors in the same class. Although Vivo emphasizes that this phone is designed thin, the fact is that it still feels a little thick in the hand and does not give a premium feel.
The slightly raised camera bump is combined with a plastic back panel. The combination makes the entire build look simple. From an ergonomic point of view, this design still provides advantages because the phone feels sturdy in the hand. It also does not slip easily when used. However, these advantages come with a small compromise on the aesthetic aspect. As a result, its appearance looks less eye-catching.
Even so, this phone still looks neat in terms of finishing. In particular, the Midnight KL Purple color variant adds an interesting side with a soft purple tone that gives a modern touch. When exposed to light, the colors begin to change to brighter. At certain angles, a bluish sheen appears and creates the illusion of different layers of color. The effect makes the phone not only look more alive, but also has a pleasing visual appeal.
Vivo Y31s (2026) comes with a 6.72-inch LCD screen with HD+ resolution and an 84% screen-to-body ratio. This display is large enough for watching videos, reading and playing mobile games. However, the use of an LCD panel causes colors and contrast to not be as sharp as AMOLED, making the viewing experience only adequate compared to premium devices. The screen design also seems to be behind with the bezel still evident, especially at the bottom that forms the chin. This affects the modern appearance because most competitors in 2026 already offer almost bezel-less displays.
In terms of layout, the power button and audio adjuster are on the right side. The USB-C port and speaker are placed at the bottom, while the SIM tray is on the left side. For security purposes, this phone uses a side fingerprint sensor placed on the power button. In terms of audio, it comes with a stereo system that produces clear and balanced sound for daily use and light entertainment. However, if you want a more robust audio experience with layered bass, using earphones or additional speakers is still the best choice
Internal Hardware – Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Chip
Vivo Y31s 2026 comes with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip, 8GB RAM memory, and 256GB internal storage. These specifications are sufficient for daily use and storing photos and videos. In 2026, this capacity is still relevant for simple tasks and daily applications. However, for intensive tasks such as heavy gaming, video editing, or opening many applications simultaneously, 8GB RAM memory starts to feel limited compared to devices with 12GB or 16GB RAM.
In real-world use, performance is more focused on the basics. Animations are sometimes not smooth, text occasionally gets stuck, and screen movements are less responsive. For messages, music, video playback, or social media, it is still sufficient. But when used for heavy gaming or multi-tasking, the smoothness is clearly reduced. This situation shows that the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip is designed for affordable phones with an emphasis on battery saving and 5G support.

OriginOS 6 on the Vivo Y31s 2026 provides an experience that is almost the same as previous Vivo devices. The interface used is easy to understand because the layout has not changed much. However, at the same time it lacks a fresh feel. This is because the pattern is still consistent, and I have reviewed Vivo devices several times recently with similar experiences.
Functions such as icons that can be changed between round or square shapes, folder color options, and the ability to organize applications by shaking the device are indeed useful. However, they do not bring major changes. The media section comes with an audio adjuster of up to 400%, but this function is more of a gimmick because it only makes the sound louder without improving the actual quality. When increased to the maximum level, the sound tends to break and is less comfortable to listen to.
The gallery section provides artificial intelligence-based functions such as AI Erase, AI UHD and AI Retouch. This function helps for quick editing, but the results are not always consistent and the process is quite slow on devices with modest specifications. In addition, the option to open applications directly from large folders does make it easier to use, although it is not something new.
Image Quality
Throughout the use of the Vivo Y31s (2026) camera, the experience offered can be considered average. The autofocus system is sometimes less responsive, especially when shooting fast-moving subjects, so that the resulting images are often less sharp and not suitable for immediate action. However, the quality produced is still sufficient for daily use such as taking pictures to share or save daily memories. This is in line with the goal of the Vivo Y31s series which emphasizes daily functions more than professional photography performance.
The filter options provided are quite numerous, but mostly basic. It does not offer additional styles such as Zeiss, B&W, or Vivid that are usually present on mid-premium or flagship phones. As a result, the image results look simple and are merely adequate for daily use. For users who want more options, the photography experience feels limited. Filters can actually make images more interesting if used wisely, without being excessive so that they look unnatural.
In portrait mode, the camera's weaknesses are clearly visible when the subject separation is not very neat, especially when there is backlighting. Skin tones look uneven and easily become too bright because they depend on the white balance of the environment. The bokeh produced is also mediocre with a blurring effect that is more noticeable when the camera is close to the subject. In addition, image processing after recording is quite slow, especially when using Burst Mode. Although the 50MP high-resolution mode slightly helps reduce the dependence on digital zoom, it is still not a solution to the optical shortcomings.
Overall, this phone's camera is more suitable for daily recording. It is able to meet the basic needs of users in taking pictures to share on social media. However, the capabilities of this camera are still limited to providing a high-quality photography experience, especially for those who prioritize more stable and consistent results.
Battery Durability
Vivo Y31s comes with a 6,500 mAh battery, a large number on paper that gives users hope for extraordinary durability. However, the real experience shows a more balanced performance. Charging is up to 44W with the charger provided with each purchase.
For light usage such as messaging, calling, video calling and social media, the battery can last almost a day. In moderate usage, the endurance drops to around 15 hours but is still enough to last a day without needing to be recharged. For continuous usage such as watching videos or playing games, the battery lasts about 8 hours. Meanwhile, heavy usage with multitasking and many applications can only last about 6 hours before needing to be recharged.
This figure proves that large capacity does provide advantages but usage patterns remain the main factor that determines actual endurance. In addition, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip used is designed for daily tasks with good energy efficiency, although its performance is at a moderate level.

Conclusion
Vivo Y31s 2026 comes with a large 6,500mAh battery and Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip, but overall it is more of an adequate phone. In terms of design, it looks a bit behind with thick bezels and a plastic camera bump that does not give a premium feel.
The performance of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip is at an average level suitable for basic tasks but is not smooth when used for heavy gaming or multitasking. The camera is only adequate for daily recording because the autofocus system is sometimes inconsistent and the image results are only average. Although the large battery capacity gives an advantage, the actual durability still depends on the usage pattern. This chip helps in terms of energy efficiency, but its performance is not that outstanding.
With a starting price of RM1,199, Vivo Y31s 2026 offers a large battery and adequate storage, but the specifications and overall experience are still less convincing. This phone is more suitable for casual users who prioritize battery life and basic use, but it is not an ideal choice for those looking for smooth performance or a premium experience.
