In the third quarter of 2021 Twitter reported that its average daily monetizable active users reached 211 million people, up 13% from the previous year. This figure includes the addition of 5 million new users.
Twitter's revenue also increased by 37% to reach USD 1.28 billion from year to year. Twitter shares were up more than 3%.
While Twitter's base in the United States, Twitter's monthly active users in the third quarter increased by 1 million with revenue rising 45% to USD 742 million.
Despite the changes to Apple's privacy policy in iOS 14.5, where iPhone and iPad users are given the choice of whether they want to share their information for ad tracking purposes. Twitter's revenue continued to rise although not significantly compared to the second quarter. Twitter thinks this is a modest impact.
"It's too early for Twitter to assess the long-term impact of the iOS changes on Apple's privacy, but the Q3 revenue impact was lower than expected and we've incorporated the modest, ongoing impact into our Q4 guidance," Twitter said.
For the fourth quarter Twitter expects revenue between USD 1.5 - 1.6 billion and operating income between USD 130 million and USD 180 million.
"I'm proud of our third quarter results. We're increasing personalization, facilitating conversation, delivering relevant news, and finding new ways to help people get paid on Twitter," said Jack Dorsey CEO of TWitter in a statement.
As the company continues to expand its targeted advertising business, Twitter is introducing more features such as topics that users can follow on Twitter.
These tools provide data about people's interests that can ultimately be used to help deliver relevant ads, said Twitter's Chief Financial Officer, Ned Segal, during a conference call with analysts.
"Many of these are opportunities that are in front of us," Sega said.
