It is reported that many Afghans are currently suffering, poor and do not receive enough health assistance. For that, Bill Gates was asked to be willing to provide the necessary assistance to them.
This was conveyed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan when speaking with the founder of Microsoft by telephone recently. Imran said Afghans are in dire need of financial assistance.
Imran Khan underlined that more than half of Afghanistan's population currently lives below the poverty line. Despite the relatively peaceful conditions after the departure of the United States military and the Taliban in power, the economic crisis made the people unable to escape suffering.
"The Prime Minister stated that more than half of Afghanistan's population is below the poverty line and is in dire need of financial assistance. He asked Mr Gates to consider providing humanitarian assistance to the people there," the Pakistani government said in a statement.
It was not clear how Bill Gates would respond to the request from PM Imran Khan. The Pakistani PM also discussed the importance of continuing the polio vaccine campaign in Afghanistan to eradicate this dangerous disease.
On the other hand, they also discussed the eradication of polio in Pakistan which reaped encouraging results thanks to the assistance of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This year, only one polio case has been recorded in Pakistan.
The Bill Gates Foundation does a lot of providing vaccine assistance to developing countries, including Pakistan. Polio is a disease that is almost eradicated, thanks in part to their intervention.
