Facebook Changes Name to Meta, This Is What Its New Logo Means

After 17 years, Facebook officially changed its name to Meta. In addition to carrying a new name, Meta will also have a new logo that better represents the company's identity.

Previously, Facebook used the 'thumbs up' icon as a corporate logo that adorned the corners of Facebook campuses around the world, including their headquarters in Menlo Park. This logo is very familiar because it is taken from the 'like' button used in the Facebook application.

After being renamed Meta, the thumbs up logo was replaced with a new logo. The new logo shows the letter M in blue, which at first glance looks like a pretzel or the infinity symbol.

The new logo immediately appeared in front of Meta's headquarters in Menlo Park and became a photo spot for employees and local residents. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also showed off his photo in front of the new Meta logo.

This new logo will represent the brand and the company's overall identity. The logos for applications and services under Meta, such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, will not change.

The design team behind this new logo explains what the new Meta logo means. They say the logo is designed to be alive in motion and in three dimensions.

"(The logo) is designed to be enjoyed from different points of view and to interact with. It resembles the letter M for 'Meta', and also the symbol for infinity, symbolizing the infinite horizons of the metaverse," said the Meta logo design team, as quoted by Business. Insider, Friday (10/29/2021).

"Meta Symbols are designed to live dynamically in the metaverse -- where you can move through them and around them. This logo can take on, texture, color, and movement, capturing the creativity and imagination of the 3D world," he continued.

The Meta logo design team said that for this new logo they will continue to use the blue color with gradations that have been the hallmark of Facebook since its establishment. This color was chosen so that Meta can stay connected to the company it is rooted for.

In addition to adopting the new logo, the Facebook/Meta ticker on the stock exchange will also change from FB to MVRS on December 1. Although the company structure has not undergone a reorganization, this change will change the way they report on company performance.
