Rare Chips Make Apple Lose USD 6 billion

In its Q4 2021 financial report, Apple posted record revenue from the service and Mac sectors. However, Apple still lost USD 6 billion.

During Q4 of the 2021 fiscal year, Apple posted revenue of USD 83.4 billion, up 29% year on year, but lower than Wall Street expectations, which predict Apple to earn USD 84.85 billion.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Apple's financial condition is affected by the supply of components that are blocked

"We've had a strong performance despite the bigger-than-expected supply bottleneck, which we estimate is around $6 billion," Cook said.

"Industry-wide shortages of chips we talk about and manufacturing issues in Southeast Asia related to COVID-19," he added.

Cook predicts losses from this component supply problem will be even greater in the December quarter.

Apple recently released a series of new products, such as the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, iPad Mini, iPad 9th generation, Apple Watch Series 7, AirPods 3, and most recently the new MacBook Pro line that uses the latest Apple Silicon chips. .

The new iPhone lineup only went on sale as Q3 drew to a close, but overall iPhone business sales increased 47% over the previous year. Likewise, iPad sales increased by 21% year over year.

Just like other technology companies, Apple has also been affected by component supply problems, which has led to the scarcity of several iPhone variants. Additionally, the new MacBook Pros, both 14 and 16 inches, are experiencing shipping delays.
