Facebook Reduces Political Content in 80 Countries

Tired of Facebook timelines containing reckless political fights? Your prayers are answered. Facebook will reduce political content in 80 countries, including Indonesia.

Facebook is slowly beginning to expand its efforts to get rid of political content in the News Feed.

Facebook has introduced new versions of the News Feed in the United States, Costa Rica, Sweden, Spain, Canada, Brazil and Indonesia.

Then, 75 new countries were added to this trial. In this latest update marks a significant expansion of efforts in which a total of over 80 countries are involved in this testing.

Facebook did not identify the latest countries to join the test, but a spokesman confirmed that Facebook is showing News Feed changes for a small proportion of users in each country. Countries that want elections and that are at higher risk of political conflict are not included in the test.

Mark Zuckerberg first announced plans to make News Feed politically minimal in January 2021.

"People don't want politics and struggle to take over their experience," he said at the time.

Launching changes to more countries could help Facebook ease tensions on its platform. Facebook was previously accused of encouraging political provocation in order to increase the number of users. At the same time, they have acknowledged that the changes could be detrimental to mass media accounts.
