In early 2021, Gojek will test electric motorcycles. Seeking to pursue its grand goal of switching to fully electric transport, this trial was expanded.
"This is a project that I am very excited about. Because if you want to achieve carbon neutrality, switching to electricity (transportation) is a must. The big roadmap is to convert all of Indonesia to electricity, starting with our driver partners," said Gojek Group Chief Transport Officer. Raditya Wibowo, Wednesday (27/10/2021).
According to Raditya, one of the shortcomings of the experience of riding an electric motorbike is that the infrastructure is not yet available. He admits that Gojek's electric motorcycle driver partners will find it difficult when their vehicle runs out of power and is confused about where to recharge the battery.
In this pilot project, Gojek is expanding its plan to use electric vehicles through commercial trials. Gojek is collaborating with Pertamina to implement a battery swap scheme for electric motors from Gesit and Gogoro.
"So the next pilot, we will put a cabinet filled with batteries in various places. Later the driver when the vehicle battery is about to run out, come to the cabinet, take a new one, exchange it with an exhausted battery. So it's faster than filling up with gasoline," he said.
At this stage, Gojek will use 500 units of electric motorcycles in South Jakarta, then will further increase the scale of the trial with an initial target of utilizing up to 5,000 units of electric motorcycles and the distance of using electric vehicles as much as one million kilometers.
In this commercial trial, Gojek loyal users will be able to choose electric vehicle services when using GoRide, GoFood, GoSend Instant, GoShop, and GoMart services with pick up and drop off areas in South Jakarta.
Raditya added, the commercial trial of electric vehicles is a manifestation of Gojek's commitment to sustainability issues to achieve the carbon neutral target through the transition to electric vehicles in the Gojek ecosystem by 2030.
Understanding the importance of building a capable ecosystem, according to him, Gojek will continue to look for technological solutions, supporting infrastructure, and continue to establish close collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the transition to electric vehicles can take place quickly while providing a more environmentally friendly driving experience for consumers. customers and driver partners.
