The breakdown of their compatibility is the result of contract changes which have reached a stalemate, regarding new licensing agreements in the future. The essence of the problem that is present is about money.
It is known, the current agreement between the two runs until December 31, 2022. However, it is rumored that FIFA provides a significant increase to its license fee every four years, worth USD 1 billion.
This figure is more than the current agreement, which is USD 150 million per year. In fact, this amount is already the most profitable commercial agreement in FIFA's portfolio.
In addition, this organization limits the scope of EA, in an effort to find new revenue streams, for the licenses it grants. This includes video game tournaments and other digital products, such as NFT.
Most likely, the decision regarding the romance of the two, will be confirmed by the end of the year. Even so, EA officials, have planned for the future post-Fifa.
"While looking ahead, we are also exploring the idea of renaming the global EA Sports football game. This means we are reviewing the licensing agreement with FIFA," wrote Cam Weber, EA SPORTS Group GM.
Even earlier this month, they have registered a trademark, in the European Union and the UK, namely EA Sports FC. However, it is still unknown which one will be chosen.
