It's fun, Instagram photos can now be posted on the desktop

Instagram has just announced a series of new features focused on helping creators create content. This feature will be present in the desktop version of feeds, Reels and Instagram.

The first feature announced and most anticipated is that Instagram finally allows users to upload photos and videos via a browser on the desktop. But the length of the video that can be uploaded is limited to just under one minute.

Although it sounds simple, Instagram is indeed a little behind in developing features on its desktop version. For example, the new DM feature was added to the desktop last year.

This is a feature that users have been asking for a long time and Instagram has been testing since this summer. Instagram users will be able to start uploading photos and videos via desktop starting October 21.

Another feature that will be released in the near future is Collabs. As the name implies, this feature allows Instagram users to create Feed or Reels content together.

To create content together, users simply invite other accounts to become collaborators via the tagging page on Instagram. If another user accepts the request, the names of both accounts will appear in the Feed or Reels posts and the content will be shared with followers belonging to both accounts.

When a creator uses the Collabs feature, their posts or Reels will appear on both profiles. The content will also have the same number of views, likes, and comments, as quoted from TechCrunch, Wednesday (20/10/2021).

Currently the Collabs feature is still in the testing phase for a handful of users. It is not yet known when this feature will be rolled out more widely.

Instagram will also be piloting new ways to raise funds for nonprofits. This Facebook-owned application will bring features that make it easier for users to start fundraising directly from the plus button used to create new posts.

When this button is tapped, users will see a button to raise funds alongside a button to create a Post, Story, Reels or Live. Users simply select a supported nonprofit organization and add the fundraiser to a post in the Feed.

Instagram has also added two new effects aimed specifically at Reels. Those effects are Superbeat and Dynamic Lyrics that will help creators to edit music on Reels. Just like the option to upload photos via desktop, these two effects will be accessible starting October 21.

If the user selects the Superbeats effect, an effect will appear that is adjusted to the beat of the selected song. While Dynamic Lyrics will display 3D lyrics that will flow according to the 'groove' of the selected song.
