Britain joins in condemning Russia for firing missiles into space

The test of anti-satellite weapons in the form of missiles was condemned not only by the United States government, but also by the UK. According to the British Secretary of Defense, Ben Wallace, Russia's actions ignore security and safety in space.

"This devastating anti-satellite test by Russia shows they have no respect for security, safety and sustainability in outer space," Wallace said.

The Russian weapon did target the old Russian satellite itself, but there was still concern. Moreover, the destruction of the satellite leads to a lot of debris in space which is feared to be harmful to operating satellites.

So far, several countries have conducted tests of anti-satellite weapons. Apart from Russia, the United States, China and India have succeeded in doing so, but their trials are more scalable than what Russia has done.

Many in the US government condemned Russia's actions. Ned Price, a spokesman for the US State Department, said the Russian test significantly increased the risk for activity in outer space.

Regarding the response to what will be done, Price admitted that he would still consult with US partners. But he admitted that the US would not tolerate it.

"I don't want to point out the specific actions we may take, nor by our allies and partners, but we will continue to make it very clear that we will not tolerate this kind of activity," Price said.

"The United States wants to make it very clear that why something like this is a very dangerous, irresponsible act," he added.
