How to secure your cellphone camera so that people don't hack it

Have you ever heard that hackers can hack your cellphone camera? Fortunately, it is possible to protect yourself from the scrutiny of irresponsible hackers who abuse their abilities.

If you are worried and aware that there is a potential for your cellphone camera to be hacked, try doing the following steps to secure your cellphone, as reported by First Digital:

1. Lock

If your phone doesn't lock itself automatically, make sure you set it to require a (strong) passcode, fingerprint, or facial recognition to unlock. This may seem a little inconvenient but it's not worth the risk if you skip this step.

2. Keep updating

Always note that it is mandatory to update the operating system and phone software regularly. So whenever a notification pops up, install it right away or set your phone to install all updates automatically.

3. Never use public wifi

Public WiFi is strictly off limits. Wherever it is, because when you connect you open a vulnerability on your cellphone. If you must use public WiFi, first login to a VPN that tunnels the network through encrypted communication.

Additionally, you are advised to turn off the auto-join and Bluetooth features altogether and only turn them on when you need them.

4. Safe applications only

Only download apps from official platforms (Apple App Store and Google Play Store). Never download apps that are sent to you by text. Also, don't jailbreak/root your phone or use one that has been jailbroken before.

Oh yes, some apps by default have access to the camera. Check each app's settings to make sure camera access is turned off. While you're at it, revoke any other unneeded permissions that are by default 'on' when downloaded.
