How to Use Google Maps Dark Mode on iOS

In August last year, Google announced that it would bring a dark mode feature to its Google Maps service on iOS devices. Reported by us from PhoneArena, Thursday (11/11/2021) apparently this feature has been available since last September.

On the iPhone itself, it already has a dark mode feature, but once the dark mode is activated, it will not apply to Google Maps, the color display will not turn dark.

To activate the dark mode feature on Google Maps, you just have to open the Google Maps application and then tap the circle with the profile picture or first initial located on the right side of the Search bar at the top of the screen.

After that tap Settings and under the Using Maps heading, you will see a list for Dark Mode.

When you tap on the Dark Mode option three options will appear including On, Off or Same as device settings.

If you select 'On' then all apps will go straight into dark mode. Where a menu that has black text on a white background will display a black background with white text.

If you select the 'Off' option then the dark mode feature will not turn on at all. Then the last option is 'Same as device settings', this means that the app will follow the settings you selected for your iPhone.

Using the dark mode feature is expected to reduce eye strain, make the screen easier to read, and especially if the user has a device with an AMOLED display, this can save battery life.

Since AMOLED screens do not require a backlight, blacks are created by turning off the appropriate pixels. Using a black background in dark mode means turning off a large number of pixels. And turned off pixels don't draw power from the battery thus saving battery life.
