Huawei wants to make a folding phone like the Galaxy Z Flip

Although still subject to sanctions from the United States, Huawei has continued to develop its folding phones.

So far they have had several series of foldable phones, starting with the Mate X series, Mate Xs, and the latest one is the Mate X2 which was released in February 2021. Well, in the future, Huawei will still release another folding phone, but with a different design.

If the previous folding phone used the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold-style design, where the phone will turn like a tablet when opened, the next one will use the Galaxy Z Flip-style design, namely the clamshell design.

According to a post on Weibo, the new Huawei foldable phone uses a hinge from Zhaoli Technology, which has been in development for a long time. Indeed, Huawei's name was not mentioned in the post, but Huawei is the one most likely to use the new hinge.

These hinges use fewer components and make them less expensive. Those fewer components make it easier to manufacture, and it's more durable than ever before.

In that post there is also a render image of the phone in question. From the rendering image, it can be seen that the screen size is about 6.7 inches when open, like most current flagship phones.

There have been no leaked specifications about the folding phone, but recently Huawei finally got permission to buy Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm for the P50 flagship series. Maybe this chip will also be used in the latest folding phone.

Huawei received permission to be able to buy the Snapdragon 888 on one condition, namely that there is no 5G modem in the system on a chip, as quoted by us from Phone Arena, Tuesday (30/11/2021).

The Mate X2 which was released in February can still use the Kirin 9000 chip, which is the last Kirin chip that can still be produced using US technology.

The screen measures 6.45 inches when folded with a resolution of 1160 x 2700 pixels and has a 90Hz refresh rate. When opened, the screen becomes 8 inches with a resolution of 2200 x 2480 pixels, also with a refresh rate of 90Hz.
